That's because the rules of the game have changed. No one really conquers countries anymore, and Putin is finding out just why. Not that this was his intent, really, I believe that he was aiming for a quick regime change and it backfired because the US was trying all along to turn this into a new Afghanistan for Russia. It was still criminal, but it's the sort of crime for which the US never even took a slap on the hand. Still, there was a better way. The US's crime was that it pushed against Russia's well-known red lines knowing all along that it wouldn't be able to back Ukraine directly in case Russia invaded. There was a better way. Europe's crime is that it still lets the US run the show on our turf, while endlessly debating the need for a Euroarmy.
