Surely you must know the funniest joke ever was in German. According to Monty Python anyone who heard it died from laughter :D

But seriously the Nazi occupation in Athens was beyond horrible. Rural Greece and smaller towns (except Thessaloniki where there was a large Jewish population, emphasis on was) weren't hit as hard at first, until the Resistance started doing serious damage. Then the reprisals where brutal and whole villages were wiped out. Many islands luckily had Italians stationed and the difference was noticeable. They weren't so keen on following orders. The period of 41-42 is known as the Great Famine now with an estimated 300.000 people dying from starvation.

Ethiopia was big for us too, whenever moms felt like being more specific. It was the age of Live Aid then and it was all over the news. I wish we'd have solved that by now but kids still go hungry in Yemen and in Afghanistan. It seems that the problem just moved eastward. Then again there are 13 million children in the richest country on Earth who don't get full meals every day, so it's just the insanity we live in.

One thing I've noticed about your generally unimpressive cuisine is that you're big on sweets and that you do them very well, which is a big plus for me hehe. But the Dutch? I've been to Amsterdam, loved the city, had wonderful food, none of it was actually Dutch. I mean everyone loves gouda cheese, but actual dishes? No clue. Great Chinese roast duck, though.

It’s time to ponder the reality of our situation and the situation of our reality.
